Where Is Your Trust? Finding Unshakable Security in God
We live in a world that constantly tells us to trust in money, success, relationships, or even our own strength. When life gets uncertain, we instinctively search for something stable to hold onto—but what happens when those things let us down?
Psalm 20:7 gives us a powerful reminder:
Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the Lord our God.
In ancient times, chariots and horses symbolized strength, security, and victory. Today, they might represent bank accounts, career success, or personal achievements. But just as David pointed to a greater source of security, we are called to do the same.
Let’s dive into how misplaced trust can lead to disappointment and how choosing to trust in God can transform our lives.
The Dangers of Misplaced Trust
It’s easy to put our trust in things that seem reliable:
Finances – A steady job, a growing bank account, or a financial safety net.
Success – Achievements, influence, and the pursuit of the next milestone.
People – Relationships, mentors, or leaders we admire.
Ourselves – Our own intelligence, abilities, and carefully crafted plans.
While none of these things are inherently bad, they become dangerous when they form the foundation of our security. The truth is:
Money runs out.
Careers shift.
People fail us.
Our own strength will fade.
But the name of the Lord is unshakable. His name represents His character—faithful, sovereign, powerful, and unchanging. Trusting in His name means resting in who He is rather than what we can control.
When Trusting God Seems Crazy
One of the most powerful examples of trusting God over earthly strength is Gideon’s story in Judges 7.
When God called Gideon to lead Israel’s army, he started with 32,000 soldiers—a reasonable number for battle. But then, God told him to cut it down to 300.
Why? Because God wanted Gideon—and everyone watching—to know that victory wouldn’t come from chariots or horses but from the Lord alone.
Against all odds, Gideon’s tiny army defeated thousands, proving that God’s power is greater than human strategy.
And the best part? That same God still fights for you today.
Trusting God in Uncertainty
Let’s be honest—trusting God isn’t always easy. We want control. We crave security. And when life gets unpredictable, it’s tempting to lean on what we can see.
But here’s the truth:
✔️ God is faithful.
✔️ God is good.
✔️ God is strong.
No matter what you're facing today—financial struggles, job uncertainty, health issues, or relationship challenges—God will never fail you.
Where Is Your Trust?
Take a moment to reflect on these questions:
What are you tempted to trust in instead of God?
When was a time you trusted God and saw Him come through?
What does trusting in "the name of the Lord" look like in your daily life?
Want to build a deeper trust in God? Here are three practical steps to get started:
Identify misplaced trust: Ask God to show you if you’re leaning too much on something other than Him.
Declare your trust in God: Pray and surrender those things into His hands.
Read and Memorize Psalm 20:7: Let this verse remind you daily where your true security lies.
Let’s take a moment to pray together:
Father, I confess that I often put my trust in things that can fail me. Help me to shift my focus to You. Remind me that Your name is strong, unchanging, and worthy of my complete trust. No matter what happens, I choose to rely on You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
